For class we had to interpret our take on Success VS Failure and I decided on the story of Icarus.
Watercolor and ink.
Draft of a project I’m working on.
Can anyone get an idea what the subject is?
Working on a children’s book character design :) My friend is writing the story and her name might not stay “Kit” for long, but we shall see! These are just some mock ups for class today.
It’s nice to use dip pen and ink again.
For my final in my Advertising Illustration class, we were assigned into groups to create an advertisement inspired by randomly created “sexy haikus” from a book my professor had. There wasn’t any real criteria except that we had to use the haikus as inspiration and take the ideas as far as we could go. From selected words in the haikus we were given, we were inspired to create a surf brand and make a double-page advertisement that could be found in a magazine. We developed the brand, a logo, decided on what product we would be trying to sell, and researched a concept for the illustration itself.
After finally figuring out everything about the brand and the surf board, I was appointed to create the illustration for the advertisement. Reina produced the logos after we decided on the brand name and also put together a professional presentation. Brian painted the surf board and Lena helped me figure out the composition for the piece itself after we decided what materials would be used. We all were able to figure out a tag line that would represent the brand and also some copy that described the product to the target customer.
This made me realize how difficult it is to work as a design team when we’re all students seeking Illustration degrees, especially when illustration is relatively a solo job. But we all collaborated really well and were able to present everything with confidence.
Though these are all sketches you’ve seen before, for my Advertising Illustration class our most recent project was to create a bus advertisement for the Illustration Department that could potentially be on a SCAD bus. Every other major at SCAD has (or had) a current bus running that visualizes their department, but Illustration seems to be left out.
We could potentially do anything, as long as it was illustrative and reflected what one could do in the classes. When my professor saw my the sketchbook I’ve been working on, he immediately said that I should take some of the sketches I had and create an ad with them and this is what I came up with. I played around with several different layouts and ideas concerning colors and this is what people seemed to like the most. That and my professor felt it was a good image that if the administration wanted to add type that described the department, it would fit really well with it.
It’s exciting if anyone from our class gets picked! The administration already has several others from previous classes chosen and we’re the last class to submit ideas so there will be several Illustration buses driving around Savannah. I’m not really concerned if mine is chosen, it was just more encouraging that my sketchbook is proving to be a good use of time.
First project for my Advertising Illustration class. We could choose any social or political topic that affects everyday American people and we had to incorporate the American flag as the motif in an informative poster. I obviously chose cocaine abuse ┐(‘~`;)┌
I also used my friend, James, as reference! Ink, gouache, graphite, and Photoshop!
I’ve also been in a rush with self-promotion stuff with help from Mark because one of my Illustration professors recommended me for an interview with BCBG for a potential internship!
I’ve also started a Behance for those who wanted a site with just my artwork. I needed a temporary website for my portfolio and when I get the chance this weekend, I’ll add the link to it on my sidebar, but for now just click the Behance button. Right now, it’s all work you’ve seen before because it’s all on my Tumblr.
Character designs for a friend’s Advertising project. I’ll unveil what the project is when this is completely finished. I’m really excited with how it’s turning out and the feedback he has received, so I couldn’t wait to post the sketches that we’ve been working on.
He brought the concept to me, and all I have to do is illustrate it! It’s playing on the notion of almost lovers. I’m anxious to continue working on it, and the bottom sketches are the two faces that the class and professor liked the most and felt worked well. I finished their full body poses and outfits tonight.
I’m itching to post some of my classwork too, but I’m practicing self restraint and waiting until those are finished! ヽ(´▽`)/
Meet my baby sculpture of my Saltasaurus for Constructive Dinosaur Anatomy. I’ve yet to name him. I was either going to work on the Shunosaurus or the Saltasaurus, and I chose the latter. We had to sculpt a maquette of our chosen dinosaur out of modeling clay, not only to work out issues before we continued on to our large sculpture, but also to work them into dynamic poses to draw. He’s not completely anatomically correct yet since he’s only a maquette but I still love him. This will be an intense class, since I’m not much of a sculptor, but I’m excited. What should I name this little guy?
Test prints of the triptych to see how they will look at actual size :) I still have work to do on each panel, but I’m anxious for to see the final product, even more so than the previous project I did.
It’s intriguing to look at most of my work and realize how much my style has evolved within the past seven months. It compels me to keep working to see where my work will continue to take me.
Here’s a preview of my current work in progress :) I’m pretty excited for this one and this is the first panel of a triptych.
Listen to “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People if you want an idea of what I’m basing this around. I’m trying to focus on the music in my headphones because I’m freezing in this computer lab but I just have to keep going. Got to keep my hands warm o__o
In the photo studio with my friend, Wyatt, documenting my latest project! I should be able to post the final piece later today or tomorrow!
Test print of one of the panels to see how it looks at actual size and how thick the line work will be. I’m getting nervous and excited to see how this will turn out!
My process work is a mess on top of the scanner as I digitally change my compositions. I have been working! This project is to help me focus on broadening my illustration content.
More very soon.
Lion hearted boy.
One of my six characters for class.
